We’ll share our favorite stories about her, and share some traditional Ghanian-America rituals to celebrate Rita’s life.

Akua (Rita), beloved mother and sister, passed away after a long battle with a rare cancer, despite this, she believed in living her life to the fullest even to the end.

Although we hoped to meet in person, our schedules never coincided but I can tell you that it never diminished our enthusiasm to communicate via WhattsApp. Our spirits blended through years of inspirational messages and photos. I felt like she was “my sister” and I will surely miss her words of encouragement. Rest in power my sister until we meet on the other side. To God Be The Glory🙏🏽💕

I did not know you, but I know your daughter Vera. I don’t think I’ve ever had a conversation with Vera where she did not mention you. Scripture says “you will know them by their fruit”, and through knowing Vera, I’ve been directly blessed by you. Thank you for your life, service, love, and the gift of Vera! Blessings!

Rest in peace to my wonderful Auntie Grandma (strange nickname I know, but sometimes kids come up with the funniest nicknames for family) I’ll always remember her fondly. It’s funny how much she’s impacted me and I’m only just now realizing how much she helped me grow into the person I am today. I hope that she passed knowing how many loved and cared for her. To all her children and close ones, I hope you can grieve and heal and carry her memory and keep it as strong as she was.

Your mother taught me my name and much more about Ghana. She and I talked about traveling to Accra together to find the school where my brother taught, with the Peace Corps in late ‘50’s-60’s.
I still will come to Accra next year, without her, because she is in a peaceful place of eternal rest.
I will always remember my sister.

We shared so many good times together. I truly miss you my friend. Our phone calls and visits. Our children grew together and we enjoyed them. My heart hurts to lose a loving friend like you. We laughed. We argued and laughed again.

I will always cherish what we had. Nana, Kofi, Tameka, Vera and her Beautiful Grand Children. I Love you. Always stay close and Love each other is what will make Rita Smile.

I read every word of her memorial and she was clearly a beautiful and extraordinary person. This is clearly reflected in her children and grandchildren. Through Kofi, I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you throughout the years and one thing remains a constant memory of you all, your smiles and personalities to match. Through her pictures I can see where you all got it from 🙂

Many blessings, prayers, and hugs to you all on the loss of your Mom. I understand well that losing a parent can be a difficult time and I appreciate Kofi for being a great friend during the loss of my father.
